The Role of the School Counselor
The Elementary Schoool Counselors provide classroom lessons, individual and group counseling and consultation / collaboration with faculty, staff and families. Referrals to community resources can be provided upon request.

  • Children develop a better understanding and acceptance of themselves.
  • Children cope with family changes.
  • Children develop decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Children develop socially and emotionally, to mature in their relationships with others.
  • Children to understand themselves in relation to their own development.
  • Parents understand their children's emotions, behaviors, and learning styles
  • School staff understand and meet students' intellectual, personal, social and emotional needs.
  • Parents and teachers create a positive learning environment.
 
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), "Elementary school counselors are professionals with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by today's diverse student population. Elementary school counselors don't work in isolation; rather they are integral to the total educational program."
